Adapter Setup program version 5.x
This program is designed to configure the adapter version 5.0 with universal firmware for all platforms.
The current version of the configurator for the adapter version HW 5.X download
Setting up a connection
Connect the USB cable from the adapter, select the com port and click Open COM_Connect. The operating speed is 921600.
the Keys/Command tab
On the left is a list of possible buttons on the steering wheel. To configure the button, select it, an additional panel will appear in the central part.
The Vol Down command is selected in the figure
Select the mode of operation of the steering wheel button and press Set new state for current key.
- not used - the button is forbidden, nothing happens when it is pressed. Highlighted in red.
- when pressdown continue - while the button is pressed at a frequency of several times per second, the command associated with this button is executed. Highlighted in green.
- when pressup - the command will be executed once only when the button is released, this mode is recommended for switching on / off (for example, heating or Cruise control). Highlighted in blue.
On the right is a list of available commands that can be linked to the button. The current command linked to the button is highlighted in blue, select the desired command from the list and press Set new command for current key
Next, you should configure all the buttons that you have on the steering wheel.
The profile can be saved and then loaded into the program, for more information, see the section Reading and writing configuration
the Config outs and CAN tab
On this tab, the operation mode of the CAN bus and the adapter outputs are configured. The adapter contains two CAN buses, seven outputs with ground fault control, with a current of up to 500 mA. In the WAN setup, select all the necessary modes, the protocol for CAN bus control of standard VAG tape recorders, as well as control of color modules in the dashboard. CAN1 and CAN2 are configured independently.
You also need to configure the operating mode of the power outputs
- normal - when executing the command, the corresponding output will be closed to ground and when releasing the button, the output will be switched to the open state
- with fixation - the output state will be inverted and saved after releasing the button, this mode is recommended for switching on/off (for example, heating or cruise control).
- inverted - the mode is similar to normal, only on the contrary, the active level is open, recessive ground fault. This mode is needed to implement the control of the active voltage level, recessive ground fault (this will require tightening the output with the required voltage through an external resistor).
Setting up the steering wheel heating
To set up the heating control, you need :
1. set the heating temperature (Heater temperature)
2. Select the output that controls the relay through which the steering wheel heating ten is powered (Select OUT for Heater).
Choosing the type of steering wheel (Platform)
Choosing the type of steering wheel controlled by the adapter, the list is being updated in the process of firmware development
Setting up Cruise Control outputs
View Profile tab
on this tab, you can view the current configuration by clicking Refresh
setting up the radio control via the digital bus
The binding of the radio control commands via the digital bus is carried out in two stages.
At the first stage, we assign NEC commands with arbitrary numbers to the steering wheel buttons, see an example below
at the second stage, we select abstract commands and assign them specific commands of the radio of the desired manufacturer, see below
For example, we assign the Alpine Volume Up Radio Commands to Team 1.
This mechanism allows you to add protocols for tape recorders from different manufacturers without affecting the general list of commands assigned to the steering wheel buttons.
Video of working with the Alpine radio with the settings shown in the screenshots
the logs tab
On this tab, you can view the logs of the adapter, here you can see the pressing of the button on the steering wheel and the commands executed at the same time
Read and write configuration
after completing all the settings, and you need to write to the adapter, where they will be stored in non-volatile memory.
Write config to device - writes the full configuration to the adapter
Read config from device - read configuration from adapter
you can also save the configuration to the hard disk and download it from there, this will allow you to create a configuration file without connecting to the adapter.
write to file - saves the configuration on the hard disk with the file name specified in the field above the button (in this example, the file name is MyConfig)
Read from file - reads the configuration from an external media, click select the desired configuration file to download.
Emulation of steering wheel button pressing
To simulate pressing the steering wheel button, select the button in the list and press Emul press down, while the adapter accepts this message and executes the command associated with this button.
